Until Justice Just Is

Until Justice Just Is

April marks the beginning of Until Justice Just Is (UJJI), YWCA’s national campaign to educate and raise awareness about social justice and equity. This year’s theme is Equity in Action: Exposing Myths and Redefining Justice. This theme calls us to think about what we can do to advance equity in our communities. The online component to UJJI is our Racial Justice Challenge, a 21-Day educational tool that builds social justice habits and promotes learning about topics that impact areas of race and equity today. The challenge started March 31 and will continue until April 28. Follow along here to get caught up.

In addition to UJJI every April, we at YWCA are challenging ourselves to better our work every day. Many organizations during this time have encountered roadblocks or are having programs threatened. Institutions like our libraries, museums, education system, and humanities organizations exist to enhance our communities. They foster healthy learning environments, provide imperative services or fund other organizations doing essential work. Government funding is needed for these important programs to continue.

YWCA’s legislative priorities are still to improve economic empowerment for women, strengthen the nonprofit sector, promote racial justice & civil rights, support survivors of violence, and ensure health care for women and babies. There are several events and causes to support this month that align with these efforts. Some events address the maternal and infant health crisis among African American women and babies. Other causes highlight sexual assault awareness and how to support survivors of gender-based violence. Be sure to attend our UJJI event on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 PM at YWCA as we explore The American Dream.
